• Findings regarding the relationship between national culture and corporate environmental responsibility (CER) are conflicting.
• We perform three robustness analyses, regarding dimensions of national culture, measures of CER, and estimation techniques.
• Our findings show that no dimension of national culture has a fully robust relationship with CER.
