Abstract
The EU has limited competences to intervene in the field of social policy, since it is largely a matter for the member states themselves. But recently the Adequate Minimum Wage Directive was adopted, albeit not without a political and legal fight. As a labour law and social policy expert Ane Aranguiz followed it closely. In her view, the directive is likely to improve minimum wage protection in the EU, including the Netherlands. It is a key piece in the puzzle of developing Social Europe.
