Abstract
Since the introduction of the open European labour market, the recruitment of labour migrants in the Netherlands has increased sharply. Although the abolition of the European internal borders has positive macroeconomic effects, the associated labour migration can contribute to an increased flexibilisation of the labour market. A TLS study shows that this can lead to an evasion of national laws and regulations in the field of employment conditions and social security, Jan Cremers writes in an ESB article.
