Abstract
This paper aims to present some methodological criteria to
be observed in experiments with the eye tracking method of the visual world
paradigm (VWP). This experimental paradigm is an online method of linguistic
processing through the simultaneous presentation of auditory and visual stimuli
to participants whose temporal measurements of saccades and fixations of eye
movements are captured from the eye tracker. For that, it is essential to revisit
the previous literature and pay attention to some precautions in the elaboration
and recording of sentences (auditory stimuli), as well as in the making of images
(visual stimuli). We consider that paying attention to these criteria can help the
researcher to avoid rework and provide greater reliability to the results of the
experiment. However, the decision on which criterion to follow depends on the
objectives and the object of study of each investigation.
