Abstract
Alphonse Gratry, a nineteenth-century author, wrote pages of sublime clarity, explaining with great logic the Catholic faith to his contemporaries in the Age of Enlightenment. These were pages that were still passionately read in the twentieth century by young people like Luigino Giussani (1922-2005) and his contemporary, Chiara Lubich (1920-2008). Gratry's pages contain prophetic thoughts that reveal affinity with what would mature from 1943 as the spirituality of the Focolare Movement.
