Abstract

Performance-based contracting (PBC) is gaining importance in manufacturing industries as an innovative business model for the delivery of outcomes. The challenges of availability and cost of information, as well as accurate measurability of performance outcomes are yet crucial for implementation of PBC to succeed. Furthermore, the role of Information Systems (IS); namely Digital Technologies (DTs), deserves more attention to minimize these challenges. However, insights into whether and what enhancing effects DTs may have on the measurability of performance outcomes and information asymmetry are rather scarce. We intent to reveal these relationships, by conducting a comprehensive literature review of 32 peer reviewed empirical publications.
