    Abstract

Pope Francis dreams of the church as the people of God on a journey, seeking together to hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches in our time. It is not sufficient to reach back to revelation and tradition and to apply those, or to obey the hierarchy; we need to see how God’s Spirit is still guiding his people. How to achieve that dream? In this contribution I highlight essential underlying faith convictions and key aspects of Ignatian discernment of spirits: inner freedom (or detachment), an affective faith culture, facts and figures, and a dialogical way of proceeding.
