Abstract

Top management teams composed of executives with diverse professional backgrounds should excel at making balanced and highquality strategic decisions. New research on the performance of firms operating in highly dynamic markets, however, qualifies this commonly held view: the CEO plays an essential role in realizing the potential benefits of a functionally diverse team.
