Abstract

The title of this paper contains two main ideas. First, we are witnessing in our time – that is, since the 1950s-1960s – the beginning of a historically fundamental and great transformation of religion. Second, the changes that the Catholic Church has gone through in this time are no less fundamental and are part of this great transformation of religion. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify these two intertwined ideas – the great transformation of religion in general and its repercussions for and resonance within the Catholic Church.
