Abstract
The aim of the present article is to provide
insight into the characteristics and scientific
opportunities of the Dutch Longitudinal
Internet Studies for the Social Sciences-panel
(liss)-panel), operated by CentERdata (Tilburg,
The Netherlands). This panel, started
in 2007, is based on a random sample drawn
from the population register by Statistics
Netherlands, and consists of about 8000
individuals. Participants are frequently
invited to complete online surveys, i.e. the
so called Core studies on for instance health,
personality, work and values, and all other
cross-sectional and longitudinal studies
(totalling about 200). The LISS-panel is an
Open Access facility: researchers can acquire
free access to all data from CentERdata. To
illustrate the opportunities, five different
studies are presented on predictors and
effects of PTSD-symptoms, manifestations of
nationalist attitudes and the role of parents,
relationships between personality and
voting behaviour, risk factors for internet
crime, and the effects of reminders on
non-response.
