Abstract
Only God can be merciful, for He can fulfill our shortcomings. Man, who has a body, can feel compassion: he or she can feel where the suffering is, and thus where mercy is needed: feed the one who is hungry, visit the one who is lonely. If man pretends to be able to fulfill our shortcomings, he or she will only create new shortcomings. But if the divine mercy is offered without the human feeling of compassion, we might end up visiting the one who is hungry, and feeding the one who is lonely.
