Abstract
Recent initiatives from Parliament to put restrictions to the role of the Inspectorate towards the schools are contradictory to those of government to increase it. What should set the right balance? Both initiatives ask for a critical approach on the basis of principles that are derived from the current understanding of freedom of education. The existence of a Inspectorate is necessary in our system, but its role should either be too restricted or to be too extensive. The essence of the solution of this problem should be the recognition that the Inspectorate has been created to preserve the basic level of quality education and not to go beyond.
