Abstract

Our goal in this chapter is to provide a framework for clarifying the nature of spin-out firms and to integrate the disparate literatures that have engaged with the concept, and to provide an initial review of the relationships between spin-out firms and parent organizations that connects with the literature on interorganizational collaboration... our objective is to extend previous classifications of spin-outs to consider the nature of interactions between the spin-out venture and its parent organization. We expect this review to clarify areas of focus and help identify new and exciting avenues for future research at the intersection of the spin-out and collaboration phenomena.
