Abstract

As can be seen in most Eastern or Middle Eastern countries, the primary role of women has been defined as motherhood or to be a wife to a man. The fact that women have a role apart from these is seen as a radical change. In Turkey, where the base of this chapter is, there has been many struggles to change this situation from past to present and to maintain the male-female equality. Yet, this "equality" cannot be seen in some broad areas in life such as work-life. The aim of this chapter is to make visible what women have encountered in order to advance in academia from the entrance through some real-life stories.
